Your Host

Wendy-Elizabeth Welles (Shapiro)

Hi, I’m best known as Elizabeth Welles—a writer, storyteller, creativity mentor, journaling instructor, and meditation guide. For over 40 years, I’ve helped individuals navigate life’s challenges through writing, storytelling, and meditation, offering practices that support healing, creativity, and inner peace.

Grief is a path I have walked deeply, both personally and alongside others. After experiencing profound loss, I turn to writing—not to "get over it," but to hold my emotions with tenderness, rediscover love, and create a space where all feelings can be honored. Without a strong community around me at the time, I leaned on writing, ritual, and inner practices that became my lifeline.

As the author of Journaling for Well-Being & Peace and editor of Women Celebrate: The Gift in Every Moment, I’ve long explored the power of words to heal and enhance life all around us. My creative work spans multiple forms, from one-woman performances like Speak the Lands of My Heart to Luminous Visions, a collection of layered photography imbued with mystical presence. I’m also the creator of The Four Wisdoms of Creativity, The ISIS Method of Stress Reduction, and the podcast Unfathomable, which explores grief, spirit, and the mysteries of life.

Through Writing Through Grief’s Open Door, I share the tools and practices that support me and so many others. This course is an invitation—to write, to express yourself and honor your grief, and to find moments of comfort, creativity, and connection in the midst of loss. My hope is that these teachings offer you a sanctuary, a place to be as you are, and a pathway to rediscovering the love that never leaves.
